Celebrated Artist and UNSW Researcher Rochelle Haley has completed a new commission for Randwick Health & Innovation Precinct as part of the ‘Heart of Randwick’ initiative, funded by Transport for NSW Community Improvement District Pilot Program.
Rochelle Haley is well known for her interest in light, colour and movement, and her new artwork extends the impact of her lighting art commission installed last year, Lunar Sway, that illuminates Francis Martin Drive in the Precinct’s laneways.
Both sides of Francis Martin Drive have been transformed by two new murals entitled ‘New Moon Rising’. The laneway is a popular community shortcut across the hospitals campus and the site hasn’t always felt like the most welcoming space.
Both the new commissions, lighting and murals, support greater vibrancy in the local streets and have been developed through a co-design session with night-shift workers from across the campus, who advised on approaches to make the Precinct laneways feel safer and more welcoming.
